Loss Control — Property Loss Control (PLC) Services

Site-level PLC Surveys are conducted by HAI professionals to:

PLC Reports and Risk Diagrams are created in an industry standard report format to reflect all of the key inspection points outlined in the site-level PLC surveys. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes and Standards are utilized unless otherwise specified by the client.

All recommendations are covered in our Loss Prevention Survey Report, which includes overall risk ratings, an Executive Summary, significant changes since last survey, general comments, and recommendations. At the client's request, we can include in the report illustrative photographs of outstanding risk issues.

In addition, to support Risk Management programs, including insurance placement, we provide a Physical Risk Property Summary that contains detailed COPE information, loss history and loss estimates [Normal Loss Expectancy (NLE), PML, MFL, etc.], and any identified interdependencies.

Risk diagrams are created for clients that detail site building layout, occupancy, exposures, and fire protection systems. The diagrams are developed in a computer aided design (CADD) format utilizing standard risk diagram symbols as outlined by the NFPA. To assure maximum efficiency and minimal cost of diagram development, HAI has the capability to scan existing diagrams and/or utilize client/insurer-mandated risk diagram symbols.

New Construction Plan Review Services are coordinated by an HAI Project Manager and then assigned to an HAI specialist depending on the type of project, needs of the client and skills/knowledge required.

The review process covers architectural, construction and fire protection system drawings and specifications as well as exposure to natural hazards risks and fire/life safety aspects. Depending on the client’s requirements, the plan review can be conducted in accordance with NFPA, insurance guidelines, local building codes/standards, or client loss prevention practices.

Where risk issues identified in the plan review require unique or specialized solutions, HAI’s highly skilled staff of fire science/research and licensed fire protection engineers can create a customized solution for the client, leveraging our fire protection engineering design capabilities to develop working drawings for installation by qualified contractors. A written confirmation of the review and findings is then provided in accordance with the client’s specifications.

Web-based Risk Information Management Systems are available to assist clients with the distribution, management, and analysis of their risk information. HAI can create an extranet site utilizing Microsoft Sharepoint software with appropriate internet security to allow the client, or the client’s other designated parties, access to any or all loss control survey reports, site diagrams, risk information analysis tools, and other loss control program materials. This online risk information management system is available 24/7.

Fire Protection Impairment Management Services provide clients with the ability to control, manage and notify designated parties about changes in the operational status of fire protection systems. Available through the client extranet, this service captures appropriate impairment reporting information. It provides guidelines and risk-based precautions to support local facilities’ management and prompt resolution of the impairment. As an online service, this is accessible 24/7.

HAI can also provide consultative guidance to the client’s local operations, drawing on HAI’s extensive fire protection design, installation and testing expertise, to help them resolve complex impairment situations effectively and expeditiously.
