Code Consulting — Fire Safety Plans

Developing drawings illustrating the relevant fire safety features of a project, documents the approaches intended by HAI for easy incorporation of the design and review by the code officials. Typically, the fire safety plans summarize applicable code criteria and show key means of egress features, such as exit locations, occupant load calculations, egress capacities, travel distances, dead-ends, and exit discharge routes. The plans also show required fire-rated construction, including occupancy separations, enclosure of shafts and vertical openings, smoke and fire zone boundaries, hazardous materials control areas, separation of atria, enclosure of incidental spaces, and other separation requirements. These plans are often submitted with the design package to clarify the design intent for the code official in their review and to summarize the design basis for the project team.
