Code Consulting — Performance-based Fire Safety Design

HAI is the leader in developing alternative solutions to prescriptive code requirements, using engineering analysis methods based on specific fire safety goals and objectives. As demonstrated by our staff's chairmanship of technical committees, and authoring of SFPE and NFPA handbook chapters, we have consistently taken the lead in developing approaches that provide fire safety based on the fire safety performance of the elements of the approach.

Performance-based solutions are often aimed at achieving a code-equivalent level of fire safety, but may also address owner-specified goals, such as protection of critical equipment, art collections, or other valuable property; preservation of historic or significant architectural features; continuity of business operations; security; and cost.
