Traditional code compliance sets the prescriptive criteria for a baseline level of safety which for many clients is a perfect fit for their fire protection needs. Through equivalency or performance-based analyses and design, we are able to capture the essential needs of the client while maintaining the intent of code compliance that is necessary.

HAI's staff of professional fire protection engineers actively participates in all of the major code organizations, such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the International Code Council (I-Codes). As members of these committees and regulatory bodies, HAI's engineers become intimately involved with code issues and the development of building and fire safety requirements. We have extensive experience in the application of Federal, State, and Local government requirements, as well as international standards. More importantly, because we not only understand the code requirements but also the intent and objectives of the code, HAI's engineers are able to work with our clients and the code authorities to find a proper balance between strict code compliance and performance-based solutions, providing an acceptable level of fire safety and ensuring cost-effective constructible solutions.
