Fire Research and Testing Services

Using science and expertise to solve the most challenging issues.

HAI’s award-winning fire research services are designed to provide accurate, efficient results, achieve regulatory approvals for new products, and achieve the code changes needed for a succesful project.

Staffed with some of the industry’s most well-respected scientists and technicians, HAI staff have extensive experience in full-scale evaluations and experimental fire testing of both existing and new fire and gas detection system technologies.

Advanced technologies include spot smoke and heat detection, aspiration smoke detection, video image fire detection (VID), optical flame detectors, various spot and linear heat detection technologies, and carbon monoxide (CO) and other hazardous gases.

When time is of the essence for clients, HAI can leverage our network of third-party commercial and private testing laboratories in the United States and Canada to provide timely testing services. Hughes personnel work closely with laboratory personnel in coordinating sample preparation and construction, overseeing or witnessing testing, and conducting appropriate data analysis for final use. Hughes personnel are also involved with the development and updating of the major test standards through participation in the fire test committees of ASTM, NFPA, and UL, in addition to participating in code organization standards and acceptance criteria development.
