Project Manager – Baltimore, MD

Hughes Associates, Inc., a nationally respected fire protection engineering and code consulting firm, is seeking a highly qualified candidate for a Project Manager position in our Environmental Group.  The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for directing and overseeing the operations and administration of the assigned project/program as well as overall responsibility for monitoring the performance and progress against documented objectives and managing to the established budget.   
Responsibilities:

  • Use project management expertise in providing overall direction for all project management deliverables including scope management, quality management, resource management, schedule management, risk management, and communications management.
  • Develop and implement complete project schedules to ensure required dates are met.
  • Manage adherence to Project Management standards related to project processes, best practices, methodology and procedures; i.e., billing, change control, reporting, etc.
  • Consistently meet documented deadlines and objectives.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain all project documentation, including meeting agendas, meeting minutes and action item lists, charters, project plans, project schedules, risk registers, communications plans, design documents, test documents, deployment and rollback checklists.

Key Skills:

  • An experienced team leader with critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent MS skills in Excel, Word, Visio, and Project Management software
  • Strong planning and organization skills / attention to detail
  • Excellent written, verbal, and personal communication skills
  • Work group facilitation Conflict resolution
  • Independent and collaborative decision-making skills working closely with existing office leadership team and supporting staff
  • Ability to multi-task and safely execute ongoing activities
  • Ability to delegate and mentor staff resources

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical/scientific discipline and 7-10 years experience
  • DoD Secret Security clearance required
  • Experience in management of small teams (3 – 4 people)
  • Knowledge and experience in government contracting procedures a must
  • COR training a plus

Fire Inspector – Northern Virginia

Hughes Associates, Inc. (HAI) is seeking a qualified Fire Inspector to augment our services for a specific site in Northern Virginia.  Successful candidates will have excellent report writing and interpersonal skills and must be knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office products.   

Tasks include:

  • Conduct technical inspections of buildings and property to verify that exits, fire protection equipment and systems, building construction, interior finishes and decorations, and occupant load, conform to applicable fire and safety laws, regulations, and standards. 
  • Prepare reports of violations or unsafe conditions.
  • Keep files of inspection records.

Fire Protection Engineer – San Diego, CA

The San Diego, CA office is seeking an entry- to mid-level Fire Protection Engineer to augment our growing operations in the San Diego Area.  Candidates should have a degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related engineering discipline with fire protection experience.
As a member of our team you may:

  • Design fire protection systems including fire alarm, sprinkler and special hazard systems.
  • Plan and direct engineering activities for your own projects.
  • Conduct Building and Fire Code reviews and analyses.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
  • Assist in business development activities.

This position requires experience in design of fire suppression and alarm systems, a strong understanding of NFPA codes, building codes, and hazards assessment. Successful candidates will have excellent report writing and interpersonal skills. They should also have an ability to present clear and technically sound fire protection engineering strategies and have good communication and negotiating skills. Excellent computer skills are essential.  A Professional Engineering license in Fire Protection is desirable.

Position requirements include:

  • PE Registration with  Fire Protection experience
  • Project management experience
  • Consulting Engineering experience a plus
  • Los Angeles Area market experience a plus

Responsibilities will include the management and implementation of a wide variety of engineering design and consulting projects.  Successful candidates will have excellent report writing and interpersonal skills.  They should also have an ability to present clear and technically sound fire protection engineering strategies and have good communication and negotiating skills.
